Left La Paz this morning at about 7:30. Jody and Doug Frye from El Gitano came by to take a tour of Bullwinkle. El Gitano is also a Westsail 32 and very nicely fitted out. El Gitano is headed home on the boat in June. They're out of Swantown marina in Olympia, WA and I hope I can catch up with them again at a Westsail owners get together. They were fun to talk to and compare Westsail stories and Doug, I owe you a beer.
Light southerly winds made most of today a motor although got to sail north from La Paz and through the channel.
Tonight I anchored up off the beach at Bahia de la Ventena. Wasn't sure how good Bahia del los Muertos would be with the south wind. It shorten today a bit and the anchor was down at about 5:30pm but will add 5 miles for tomorrow to make Los Frailles.
Beautiful sunset against the mountains back toward La Paz and I'll post a pic later.

Left La Paz and arrived Bahia de la Ventena
Left La Paz this morning at about 7:30. Jody and Doug Frye from El Gitano came by to take a tour of Bullwinkle. El Gitano is also a Westsail 32 and very nicely fitted out. La Paz
Ensenada Grande was as beautiful as ever and the water clarity was great. No problem seeing the anchor and chain on the bottom in 23' of water. Made me want to stay and go snorkeling.
Motored under clear skys and light south winds into La Paz. I wanted to see if any of the folks we met last year where around so got a slip in Marina Palmira on dock 3. The main reason for stopping was to get propane and leave with two full bottles. I was having bad thoughts about running out of propane for the stove and having to eat cold beans. But really one bottle(10 lbs) and one person, it will last well over 30 days, so should be good.
La Paz is such a great city. The water front is bright and beautiful. Colorful stores and of course my favorite fish taco stand just down the block from the church and town square. I could eat there every day..........and have!!!
Saturday at the town square they had a stage set up and various groups were doing Mexican western dancing with about 6 guys in western wear and 6 ladies in the big flowing dresses. Great costumes.
Vendors were selling various crafts and foods. Sorry forgot to carry the camera in.
It's Cinco de Mayo weekend, buts it's funny, I asked the office lady at the marina if stores and banks would be open on Monday. She laughed and said yes, Cinco de Mayo was a holiday but not a big holiday here. I told her we must make more of it up north, she laughed and said yes.
Did some boat chores on Sunday and walked around town and finally got my propane today, Monday.
Unlike the States, propane is not sold at every gas station, but instead is sold only at propane stations, which are usually on the outskirts of town. Luckily the marinas here schedule a bottle pickup or an enterprising individual does bottle pick up as his business. This is case at Marina de La Paz where I walked my bottle to rather than wait until the pickup(at my marina) later this week. An older gentleman named Lupe has been providing this service for years and picks up, fills and returns the bottles, three days a week.
This evening, I caught up with Crit who has a boat, Jasdip, here, who we met last year. As it also happened, the boat across from Bullwinkle, was hauling out in the next few days and the folks wanted to use up their food, so they brought it out and we had a little dock party for a while.
The plan is to check out of here as early as possible tomorrow morning and head for the anchorage at Bahia Los Muertos about 50 miles down.

//WL2K Arrived Ensenada Grande
Hi All,
Decided not to stay around for Loreto Fest. North winds were predicted changing to south on Saturday and northerns would help me along and save some fuel. As it turned out the north winds didn't show up on Thursday until I was putting the anchor down at Punta San Telmo, which then made that a pretty rolly anchorage for the night.
Today, Friday, the sea were flat calm, nice for motoring which I did until about noon, then the wind came up from the north and I had a great sail to Ensenada Grande where I'm anchored now. About a 57 mile run today.
Beautiful evening and very calm in the bay.
