Our last couple of days on Avalon consisted of mostly books, cocktails, and naps. Ed took in another desert hike, while I took a walk over to Descano beach and shopped. We both decided to do the tour of the casino and it was worth it. The detail of work (and money) that went into building is just amazing. We got to see the theater and it was fantastic. 24 caret gold and sterling silver stars on the ceiling. All of the murals were original and hadn't been touched since they we added. The color was fantastic. And the ballroom at the top with the balcony over looking the town and ocean-wow. Unfortunately the tour was a last minute decision and we didn't have our camera with us!
Wonderful stay. So long Avalon, island of flying fish and beautiful tile work. We may return to Catalina after Disneyland and stay at Two Harbors. Ed must see were Mutiny on the Bounty (with Clark Gable) was filmed.
On our sail back to the mainland we caught some really good wind and sailed all the way into the harbor. Some dolphins crossed our path but didn't stay to play. We also saw what looked like small Orcas, but have decided these must be really large porpoises. We also saw (with binoculars) Marlin feeding. Jumping sky high out of the water-very cool.
Disneyland this weekend and perhaps lunch or dinner with Scott and Rick.
So glad you guys are soaking up the sights and feeling less sea sick these days. Hope you're having a blast at Disneyland with the fam!
