Under 1000 miles

5-27-2014
Yahoo ! At 16:50 PDT, I have less than 1000 miles to go !!

5-27
Raining last night and this morning. Winds have really died down. Seems like when it's cloudy, the winds are low or maybe it's because its less windy the clouds build up.

Having to get out the old blue bibbs and yellow slicker....bummer.

In the afternoon it cleared to a high overcast with some sun breaks...enough to put up the sun shade.
Winds have increased to about 15knots from the E then NE. Flying the Tall Boy and main and making 6-6.5 knot most of the afternoon and 8 knots surfing down waves. By the way "Tall Boy" is my nickname for a loose flying jib(doesn't hank on to the headstay). When going mostly downwind it works good and I can fly twin headsails when possible.

Here the day started out partly cloudy with the wind shifted around to the east. I put up tall boy and the regular jib and went wing on wing for several hours. It worked good except for it's a bit rolly like that. The wind shifted back to the NE and I thought I saw a squall coming so took down tall boy and raised the main. The main is hard to raise going downwind. Keeps wraping around and getting caught in the stays as you raise it. Finally got it to go. By that time I could tell there was to squall, but the wind had shifted enought to the north NE to make good progress to the west. My direct course is slightly south of west. Anyway it's cleared off now and really pretty. The boats charging along at 5 knots on a good course. Big blue sky out behind us and deep blue ocean. A little rolly but not too bad, still have to use the hand ropes inside.
