Out bound Cabo

Left the anchorage at Cabo about 9 or 9:30. Two cruise ships had pulled in and anchored and where beginning to shuttle passengers ashore. That probably adds 6000 people to the streets of Cabo today, so I'm glad I got by stuff done.

Just past Lands End, I hoisted the sails and the northerly winds where already 10-15 knots so good sailing. Farther from the cape the winds probably increased to 15 plus and the wind waves increased to 3-4 ft. A lay line for Hilo was about 265 degrees but I couldn't make that as the farther from the cape the more the wind became NW.
So I pointed at about 240 degrees. With boat at about 4.5-5 knots and swell on the bow quarter it was something of a wet ride with spray coming on board pretty good at times.

I saw the first of many sunsets with the sun dropping into the ocean off the bow, but it was cloudy on the horizon so not realy clear.

The wind dropped some after dark and the boat moved nicely at about 3.5 knots, with not too bad boat motion, but enough that I couldn't stay in the forward cabin too long without feeling the effects. Back toward the galley and chart table the boat motion is much less and so not so bad to hang out there.

Sometime around midnight to 2:00am I must have been crossing a north-south shipping lane because 6 or 7 freighters came by. Four crossed within 2 miles of me. I contacted each of those 4 to let them know I was there and verify the could either see me or have me on radar. All of the watch captains were very courteous and said they would manuever if necessary to stay clear.

By about 7 am here I had made about 80 miles.

Today has been a beautiful day, with low seas but also light winds, many times under 10 knots. Nice on the water put very slow. I'll be lucky to make 50 miles today.

Oh yeah, sometime during the night a flying fish came on board. Found him on the deck this morning. Probably use him for bait tomorrow.
